Health Insurance: A Memo to Obama
Spero News, December 3, 2008
On health care reform, the American people are too often
offered two extremes--government-run health care with higher
taxes or letting the insurance companies operate without
rules. Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe both of these
extremes are wrong, and that's why they've proposed a plan
that strengthens employer coverage, makes insurance companies
accountable and ensures patient choice of doctor and care
without government interference.

For Affordable Health Insurance (CAHI) Stands by Its Principles
for Health Insurance Reform
MarketWatch.com, November 20, 2008
Yesterday, America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) implied
that the health insurance industry had decided to support
an "individual mandate," which requires everyone
to buy health insurance or pay a fine, combined with "guaranteed
issue," meaning that everyone must be accepted regardless
of health status.

For
Single Parents, Affordable Health Insurance is a Must
BestSyndication.com, November 25, 2008
These days, affordable health insurance is hard to come
by if you are a single parent. Not only are you the sole
provider for your children as far as food, water and basic
necessities, but you also have to raise them and make sure
they are becoming extraordinary young adults. Recent statistics
show that 50% of children will be raised by a single parent
as a result of a parent dying, a divorce and the parent
choosing not to remarry, or by a parent who chose to never
get married, these statistics are all for children under
the age of 18 which means they are still under their parents
insurance policy.

Affordable Health Insurance Options Available For Unemployed
4029 TV, December 5, 2008
For those who've recently lost their jobs, where to get
health insurance may be one of the biggest concerns. COBRA
is available, but it is costly and coverage only lasts 18
months. Many turn to places like the Community Clinic at
Saint Francis House for medical help. The clinic offers
deeply discounted treatments for families who otherwise
couldn't afford medical help.

Businesses,
Employees Pay Through The Nose to Stay Healthy
Morning Sun, November 10, 2008
Shopping for health insurance plans has become increasingly
stressful for small-business leaders and their employees.
Choosing the right insurer - for the right price - is a
time-stealer, tearing them from their focus on customers
and profits...Those increased costs force employers into
the agonizing annual process of finding affordable health
insurance plans, even if it means reducing coverage or increasing
premiums for employees.

Obama
Team Looks To Grass-Roots For Help
CBS News, December 4, 2008
Barack Obama's incoming administration has begun to draw
on the high-tech organizational tools that helped get him
elected to lay the groundwork for an attempt to restructure
the U.S. health-care system. Former senator Thomas A. Daschle,
Obama's point person on health care, launched an effort
to create political momentum yesterday in a conference call
with 1,000 invited supporters culled from 10,000 who had
expressed interest in health issues, promising it would
be the first of many opportunities for Americans to weigh
in.

Child Healthcare Program Expands
WBBM 780, November 28, 2008
The Illinois Comprehensive Insurance Program Board unanimously
approved an expansion of healthcare coverage to assist seriously
ill or injured teens and those with pre-existing conditions
maintain healthcare coverage. The All Kids program offers
families affordable health insurance for their children,
but teens over the age of 18 are no longer eligible for
coverage under All Kids. The Bridge program will prevent
a lapse in healthcare coverage and ensure premiums stay
affordable for young people when All Kids coverage ends
on their 19th birthday.
